The birth of a new drug is rather
like a knock-out competition. Each
year thousands of new chemical substances
are discovered by pharmaceutical research
teams. Eventually, one of these molecules
will become a new drug. The entire
process - from molecular design to
production, marketing and sales -
takes an average of 10 years or more
to complete and calls for huge investments.
